Middle East Stalemate: What hopes for progress now?

After nearly 50 years of conflict and four wars between Israel and its neighbours, by 1994, when UGI last tackled this subject, it seemed that a turning point had been reached. Israel, the Palestinians and most of the surrounding Arab countries were all seriously talking peace. Since then, most of the news has been bad, and the peace process has stalled. Is there any reason to hope it can be revived?
