World Population: The biggest problem of all?

World population is now 5.6 billion, twice as big as in 1950. By 2050, it could have doubled again. Over 90% of this growth will take place in developing countries, many of which have serious social, economic and environmental problems. Some are seeing rapid economic growth and becoming massive new consumer societies. What are the implications of the continuing growth in world population?
