The Water Crisis

The world is facing a growing crisis of water scarcity, contamination and loss of aquatic biodiversity. Few rivers and lakes remain untouched by dams or pollution. A fifth of irrigated land has been damaged by the build-up of salts. The number of people living in water-stressed countries is projected to exceed 3 billion by 2025. As groundwater suffers massive overpumping, it is increasingly clear that human demands on freshwater are unsustainable.
